Cyprus recorded a 4% of GDP budget surplus in the fourth quarter of 2025, maintaining one of the strongest fiscal positions in the European Union. Eurostat data show the country remained in surplus throughout the year, even as the EU as a whole registered a 3.2% deficit.
The surplus was unchanged from Q4 2024, while seasonally adjusted figures indicate a 1.2‑point improvement compared with the previous quarter.
Across the euro area, the general‑government deficit narrowed slightly to 3% of GDP in Q4, down from 3.1% in Q3.
