Cyprus Museum to host event marking EU Council presidency and upgraded permanent exhibition

Cyprus’ Department of Antiquities will host an event at the Cyprus Museum on Feb. 7 to mark the start of the country’s presidency of the Council of the European Union and the completion of major upgrades to the museum’s permanent exhibition.

The program begins at 4 p.m. with a presentation of the revamped exhibition. Culture Deputy Minister Vasiliki Kassianidou and Antiquities Department Director George Georgiou are scheduled to deliver remarks.

The museum’s permanent galleries have been enriched with significant finds from recent archaeological excavations, repatriated antiquities, new interpretive material, improved lighting and upgraded display cases — changes officials say substantially enhance the visitor experience at the island’s leading archaeological museum.

Guided tours will follow: a Greek‑language tour from 5 to 6 p.m., an English‑language tour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and another Greek‑language tour from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. A reception will be held in the museum garden.

The Antiquities Department also released the project team responsible for the upgrade, including curators, conservators, designers, technicians and support staff from across the department and collaborating organizations.
