A British passenger was arrested at Paphos Airport after customs officers found thousands of undeclared cigarettes in his luggage.
Customs officials said they searched the man’s bags on Jan. 28 after evaluating information and discovered 65 boxes containing 200 cigarettes each — a total of 13,000 cigarettes.
The packaging did not carry the required health warnings in Greek or Turkish, indicating the products were duty‑free and not legally importable.
The passenger was arrested for in‑flagrante offenses, and both the luggage and cigarettes were seized.
He appeared before the Paphos District Court the following day, where a judge ordered him held for four days to assist the ongoing investigation by the Paphos Customs Office.
