FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – President Nikos Christodoulides inaugurated a new gambling addiction treatment center in Paphos, emphasizing the need for care and support for those struggling with addiction.
Calling gambling addiction a serious but often invisible issue, Christodoulides stressed its impact on individuals, families, workplaces, and society at large.
The launch follows reports of a rise in gambling addiction cases in Cyprus.
Local media noted a growing number of young people engaging in games of chance despite legal restrictions, with applications to the country’s treatment center increasing from 84 in 2020 to 157 in 2023.
Cyprus hosts major gambling establishments, including Europe’s largest integrated casino resort, City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol.
