The House of Representatives has renewed its commitment to strengthening cancer research, care and support services, Speaker Annita Demetriou told lawmakers during a statement marking World Cancer Day.

Demetriou said the annual observance is an opportunity to promote prevention, early diagnosis and improved treatment. She noted that cancer remains one of the most significant global public‑health challenges, affecting millions of patients and families.

She highlighted this year’s international theme, “United by Unique,” which stresses that each patient’s experience is individual and that care should respect personal dignity and circumstances.

Demetriou said Cyprus continues efforts to expand prevention programmes, ensure equal access to health services and improve outcomes for patients.
