FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Mobile users in Cyprus must register their prepaid SIM cards by November 10 or face automatic deactivation, officials announced Monday.

The new regulation, part of a broader telecommunications law passed by parliament, requires all prepaid SIM and eSIM users to verify their identity either online or at their mobile provider’s retail locations.

Failure to comply will result in loss of access to all mobile services, including calls, texts, and data.

Transport Committee Chair Marinos Mousiouttas said the law aims to enhance both personal and national security. He noted that identification rates remain low, urging the public to complete the process promptly.

Authorities estimate that hundreds of thousands of prepaid SIM cards are currently active across the island, many of which remain unregistered.
