The Cyprus Police Association has expressed shock and strong indignation over the incidents that unfolded at GSP Stadium in Nicosia after the APOEL–AEK football match.
In a statement, the Association said Tuesday night’s events “went beyond any limit of fan violence” and escalated into outright criminal acts.
It stressed that the rioters’ aggression was not limited to attacks on police officers but extended to unprecedented destruction of state property, including the complete wrecking of patrol cars and other police vehicles — something it described as a direct attack on the state and the taxpayer.
The Association called for the immediate use of all available means to identify the perpetrators and arrest anyone in possession of stolen police equipment.
