The U.S. Postal Service is temporarily suspending package delivery from China, following President Donald Trump’s tariffs on China that went into effect Tuesday.
He also ended the exemption that allowed packages worth less than 800 euros from China to be imported into the United States duty-free.
Americans have been ordering a lot of cheap packages from Chinese online stores such as Shein and Temu. According to Reuters, smugglers have also used the packages to import chemicals needed to manufacture the drug fentanyl.
The decision will not affect the flow of letter mail from China to the United States.
China has criticized the decision as unreasonable.
