FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstandinos Kombos met with European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner to discuss Cyprus’ progress toward joining the Schengen Area.
Kombos said the meeting was productive and that he exchanged views with Brunner on the recommendations set by the European Commission for Cyprus’ accession.
He emphasized that full membership in the Schengen Area would enhance the European Union’s security and strengthen its strategic outlook.
Cyprus remains one of two EU member states outside the Schengen Zone, along with Ireland.
The government has set a goal of completing all technical requirements by the end of 2025, with full accession expected in 2026.
