Cyprus’ Health Ministry has announced the recall of a jelly product from the local market after an EU rapid alert system warned it could pose a choking hazard to children.

The Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) notified Cypriot authorities that the product’s texture, shape and size could lead to accidental swallowing of the whole item or large pieces, creating a risk of asphyxiation.

Product details:Name: Hello Kitty Apfel Koniac Gelee • Brand: Sanrio Co., LTD. Tokyo • Packaging: 12 individual 15‑gram units • Best before: June 11, 2026 (26.06.22B) • Country of origin: Japan

According to the ministry, distributors in Cyprus have already been informed by the Dutch supplier and, in cooperation with health inspectors, have begun withdrawing the product from shelves.

Consumers who have purchased the jelly are urged not to give it to children and to return it to the point of sale.
