Police arrested two drivers overnight for excessive speeding on the Nicosia–Limassol highway as part of intensified traffic enforcement aimed at preventing serious and fatal collisions.
Around 11 p.m. on Sunday, officers from the Traffic Patrol Unit (ΟΠΟΔ) stopped a vehicle near the GSP Stadium after clocking it at 200 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. The driver, a 25‑year‑old woman, was arrested and is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court today for immediate registration of the case.
At about 2:20 a.m. Monday, officers stopped another vehicle near Nisou travelling at 195 km/h in the same speed‑restricted area. The 31‑year‑old male driver was also arrested and will appear in court today.
Police said enhanced patrols and targeted checks will continue as part of ongoing efforts to reduce road fatalities and dangerous driving.
