Cyprus representative for Religious Freedom visits Syria and Lebanon

The Special Representative of the Republic of Cyprus for Religious Freedom and the Protection of Minorities in the Middle East,  Thessaly-Salina Siabou, traveled to Beirut and Damascus between 7-10 January 2025.

Within the framework of her terms of reference,  Siabou held extensive meetings and contacts focusing on regional developments, and in particular developments in Syria.

Moving on to Damascus, she had meetings, among others, with His Holiness Patriarch John X of Antioch, His Eminence Bishop Joseph Bali of the Syriac Orthodox Church, as well as His Eminence Bishop Armas Nalbandian of the Armenian Orthodox Church.

During her visits, the Special Representative also had the opportunity to listen to and speak with a number of members of civil society, European and Arab Ambassadors, as well as with the Deputy United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Ms. Najat Roshdi.
