FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – United Nations officials remain cautiously optimistic about the upcoming talks in Geneva, despite the lack of movement from either side on key issues.

According to CyBC’s New York correspondent, Thanasis Tsitsa, the U.N. does not anticipate significant progress on major points, nor does it expect the talks to collapse.

Officials believe the presence of U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, along with his influence and personal commitment, could pave the way for meaningful progress.

Reports suggest that Guterres may bring proposals and ideas to the table, rather than arriving empty-handed.

During a recent meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister, the Secretary-General reportedly discussed a roadmap for the next steps, leading analysts to speculate that he may appoint a special envoy for the Cyprus issue.

The talks are seen as a critical opportunity to address the long-standing division of Cyprus, with hopes that Guterres’ involvement could help break the deadlock.
