Newly elected Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman expressed his intention to work in coordination with Turkey on foreign policy and the Cyprus issue, following his victory in the recent elections held in the northern part of the island.
In his celebratory speech, Erhürman stated that, like his predecessors, he would maintain close consultation with Ankara on key matters affecting the Turkish Cypriot community.
He also delivered a message of unity, promising to strive for change in the current conditions in the north. Erhürman won the leadership race in the first round, securing 62.76% of the vote, ahead of incumbent Ersin Tatar, who received 35.81%.
