FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE— The Tax Department has issued a public warning regarding fraudulent emails falsely bearing the “gov.cy” logo, urging recipients to scan a QR code to claim a refund of Value Added Tax (VAT).
According to an official statement, the emails also reference a fake address associated with the new Tax For All (TFA) system to mislead citizens. The department stressed these messages are designed to deceive users into opening suspicious attachments or clicking malicious links.
Authorities emphasized that all tax refunds—including VAT and income tax—are processed exclusively via secure bank transfers, using IBANs declared directly to the department by taxpayers.
Furthermore, any legitimate email correspondence from the Tax Department is sent solely through email addresses ending in @tax.mof.gov.cy.
Citizens who receive such messages are urged to ignore them and refrain from interacting with any embedded content.
