Cyprus Temperatures to Hit 39 Degrees Inland as Summer Heat Persists

Temperatures were forecast to reach 39 degrees Celsius (102 Fahrenheit) inland Monday as summer conditions continued across the island, with only a slim chance of rain in the mountains, according to the Meteorological Service.

A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting the region.

Forecasters said skies would be mostly clear Sunday, though localized cloud buildup was expected in the afternoon, potentially bringing brief, isolated rain to mountainous areas. Winds were expected to blow mainly southwest to northwest, light to moderate at 3 to 4 on the Beaufort scale, later reaching 4 to 5 in some areas. Seas were forecast to be slightly rough.

Daytime highs were expected to reach 39 degrees inland, around 32 degrees along the southwestern and western coasts, around 35 degrees on the rest of the coast, and 29 degrees in the higher mountains.

Overnight, skies were expected to remain mostly clear, with winds shifting northwest to north, light and briefly reaching moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort in places. Seas were forecast to be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures were expected to drop to 22 degrees inland, around 24 degrees on the southern and eastern coasts, around 23 degrees on the western and northern coasts, and 20 degrees in the higher mountains.

Forecasters said Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday would bring mostly clear skies, with temporary cloud buildup in the afternoons that could produce isolated mountain showers. Temperatures are not expected to change significantly over the three-day period, remaining slightly above seasonal averages.
