Cyprus issued a yellow warning for extreme heat, with inland temperatures expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius between noon and 5 p.m.
The alert came as much of Europe continued to swelter under a widespread heatwave. Southern and western regions, including Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy, have recorded some of the highest June and July temperatures in decades. In Portugal, the town of Mora hit 46.6 degrees, while parts of Spain and France saw highs above 42.
