Cyprus will distribute €890,000 to communities in the Limassol mountain region, money originally donated by private businesses after last July’s wildfires, President Nikos Christodoulides has said.

Speaking in Pachna during a meeting with local authorities from the area, Christodoulides said the funds would be used for projects chosen by the communities themselves.

He added that state services had been instructed to provide support wherever needed to ensure the projects are carried out.

The president said that after the scale and intensity of last summer’s fires in the Limassol highlands, the state must assess the risks and take decisions aimed at preventing similar disasters.

He noted that the government mobilized all available mechanisms from the first moment to ensure no one was left without assistance.
