Tufan Erhürman, newly elected leader of the Turkish Cypriot community, has pledged to work in coordination with Turkey on foreign affairs and the Cyprus issue.
In his victory speech following elections in the north of Cyprus, Erhürman stated that, like his predecessors, he intends to maintain close ties with Ankara on key diplomatic matters.
He also issued a message of unity to Turkish Cypriots, promising to push for change in the current conditions in the north. Erhürman won the leadership contest in the first round, securing 62.76% of the vote against incumbent Ersin Tatar, who received 35.81%.
