New motor vehicle registrations in Cyprus rose 11.5% in the first seven months of 2026, reaching 34,787 compared with 31,200 in the same period last year, the Cyprus Statistical Service (CYSTAT) reported.
In July alone, total registrations reached 5,420, up 3.3% from 5,246 in July 2025. Saloon car registrations rose 2.2% to 4,244 from 4,154 a year earlier.
For the January-July period, saloon car registrations increased 11.1% to 26,841, up from 24,158 in the same period of 2025. New cars accounted for 8,614 of those registrations, or 32.1%, while used cars made up 18,227, or 67.9%. Rental car registrations fell 11.8%, dropping to 3,159 from 3,581.
The fuel-type mix shifted notably: the share of petrol-powered saloon cars fell to 35.5% from 43.3% a year earlier, while diesel-powered cars declined to 8.0% from 8.5%, and electric vehicles slipped to 4.6% from 4.8%. Hybrid vehicles, by contrast, saw their share jump to 51.9% from 43.3%.
Bus registrations rose to 130 in the seven-month period, up from 89 in the same period of 2025.
Registrations of freight-transport vehicles increased 12.9% to 4,074, up from 3,608 a year earlier. Within that category, light trucks rose 12.1% to 3,324, road tractors (trailers) increased 15.2% to 152, heavy trucks grew 16.1% to 491, and rental freight vehicles rose 16.6% to 197.
Moped registrations (under 50cc) fell to 100 from 143 a year earlier, while motorcycle registrations (over 50cc) rose 12.9% to 3,167, up from 2,806.
