FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE  — Danish households should strengthen emergency readiness after widespread blackouts hit Spain and Portugal this week, Danish Minister for Resilience and Preparedness Torsten Schack Pedersen said Tuesday.

Speaking to broadcaster DR, Pedersen urged citizens to maintain a 72-hour supply of essentials, including drinking water and canned food.

A massive power outage on Monday left large parts of Spain and Portugal without electricity. Danish emergency services warned Tuesday that Denmark could face major challenges under similar circumstances.

Though Denmark has “good preparedness and a robust society,” Pedersen stressed that “reality is changing.”

The National Operational Staff—a coordination body of police, defense forces, intelligence services, and health authorities—was set to meet later Tuesday to discuss lessons from the Iberian crisis.

“We are focused on ensuring authorities are as well-prepared as possible,” Pedersen said.
