Two Dutch F-35 fighter jets were scrambled Sunday after an unidentified drone was detected in the country’s airspace, the Defense Ministry said.
The drone later left Dutch airspace and posed no immediate threat. Officials said air traffic was not disrupted.
The ministry said the drone did not identify itself to air traffic control by radio or transponder.
The Royal Netherlands Air Force jets returned to Volkel Air Base after the interception. The ministry noted its fighters are on standby around the clock and can launch within minutes to intercept unidentified aircraft.
