FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned that surging violence in Syria’s Sweida province threatens regional stability during a phone call Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Both leaders expressed concern over the escalating conflict, which has killed hundreds amid fighting between Druze and Bedouin groups. Erdogan urged respect for Syria’s sovereignty and reiterated Türkiye’s support for peace efforts.
The Kremlin said the conversation included calls for national dialogue, protection of minority rights, and preservation of Syria’s territorial integrity. Israel recently launched airstrikes in Sweida and Damascus, citing protection for the Druze community.
