FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the importance of Türkiye-Russia cooperation in ensuring peace and stability in Syria during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, according to a statement from Erdogan’s office.
Erdogan highlighted the need for joint efforts to counter destabilizing actions in Syria and called for lifting sanctions on the country.
He also reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for integrating the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces into Syria’s central administration and stressed the elimination of “terrorist threats” as crucial for long-term regional stability.
The Turkish leader described cooperation between Ankara and Moscow as a vital factor in resolving challenges and expressed Türkiye’s willingness to host peace talks.
Erdogan also underscored the importance of Black Sea security, particularly for commercial navigation, and pledged to prevent the region from becoming a conflict zone.
The Kremlin reported that Putin and Erdogan discussed recent consultations between Russian and U.S. groups in Riyadh, along with ongoing dialogue between Moscow and Washington on the Ukraine conflict. They also reviewed efforts to renew the Black Sea initiative for safe navigation.
