FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to disarm and dissolve without delay, emphasizing Türkiye’s determination to protect its security and territorial integrity.
In his Eid al-Fitr message on Sunday, Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to the “Türkiye without terrorism” initiative and vowed to continue operations against militant groups in northern Iraq and Syria.
He highlighted the geopolitical landscape as a historic opportunity to end the conflict with the PKK, while cautioning against instability along Türkiye’s southern border.
The PKK declared a unilateral ceasefire on March 1, following its leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call to halt armed actions.
The Turkish government has responded cautiously, maintaining counterterrorism efforts while awaiting formal disbandment announcements from the PKK.
