FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A boat carrying Syrian migrants reportedly evaded detection by British Bases Maritime Police and Cypriot authorities before landing off the coast of Ormideia on Sunday.
The passengers disembarked and began wandering along the coastline before being located by authorities.
According to Philenews, 11 individuals were detained and their small vessel was also discovered.
The migrants have since requested asylum and were taken through the required procedures. Following this, they were transferred to the Pournara reception center, where they will undergo further processing.
The incident has raised questions about maritime surveillance capabilities and coordination between British Bases authorities and Cypriot officials.
Local sources have not yet clarified how the vessel managed to elude detection or the conditions under which the migrants undertook their journey.
