Farm organizations met Tuesday with the agriculture minister to discuss compensation for the foot‑and‑mouth outbreak and milk‑quota rules for halloumi.

Livestock producers left the meeting largely satisfied, despite reservations and some disagreements, after receiving clarifications on how compensation will be calculated.

The two sides also agreed on a package of relaxations for grazing and animal movement in districts unaffected by the outbreak, provided repeat sampling is carried out.

A new meeting with the minister is set for next Monday to finalize the relaxation package.

Earlier in the day, farm groups delivered a memo to the president of the Republic demanding the withdrawal of the decree reducing the quota of sheep and goat milk in PDO halloumi.

They are calling for a roadmap under which, by 2029, the quota would be set at 51% sheep and goat milk and 49% cow’s milk.
