Authorities in northern Cyprus confirmed an outbreak of foot‑and‑mouth disease at a cattle farm in Boğaziçi (Lapetos), following laboratory tests.
The Veterinary Department of the ‘Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources’ said samples sent to Turkey’s Foot‑and‑Mouth Institute identified the SAT 1 serotype.
An emergency action plan has been activated, the area placed under quarantine, and nationwide measures introduced to prevent the spread of the disease.
Officials said the suspected outbreak was first reported Dec. 13, with veterinarians conducting clinical examinations and preliminary tests before confirmation on Dec. 14.
