France will bolster Cyprus’ defenses by deploying anti‑missile systems, anti‑drone technology and a naval frigate to the island, according to media reports on the island.
The move follows a request from the Cypriot government. President Nikos Christodoulides was informed of the decision during two phone calls Monday with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Macron also told Christodoulides that France plans to send a second frigate in the near future, the agency reported.
Cyprus has made similar requests to Germany. German opposition leader Friedrich Merz has responded positively, and a formal decision from Berlin is expected soon, according to the same reports.
