U.N. Secretary‑General António Guterres will visit the anthropological laboratory of the Committee on Missing Persons during his stay in Cyprus, officials said.
Speaking on RIK’s Face to Face, Leonidas Pantelides, the Greek Cypriot representative to the committee, said international interest in the missing persons issue — including Guterres’ — is significant and helps safeguard the committee’s work.
He noted that the secretary‑general’s wish to be briefed on the CMP’s operations “secures the fundamentals” for the continuation of its mission.
Presidential Commissioner Marios Hartsiotis told the program that Guterres’ decision to visit the laboratory shows the missing persons issue remains a priority for him.
He said he expects the matter to be addressed at its “real level,” beyond political dimensions, emphasizing its humanitarian nature.
