FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus was thrown into crisis mode on Sunday as scorching temperatures and brutal conditions forced authorities to ban outdoor work in several regions.

With thermometers edging upwards, the Labour Inspection Department ordered an immediate halt to all heavy and moderate outdoor tasks — including deliveries via motorcycles and personal mobility devices — between 12pm and 4pm.

The restrictions apply to low-lying inland areas under 300 meters elevation, more than 10km from the sea, as well as mountainous zones above 1,150 meters.

Officials warned that the intense heat and humidity pose serious health risks, and reminded employers to follow mandatory safety guidelines.

These include frequent rest breaks in cool areas, lightweight clothing, head protection, and constant access to chilled drinking water.

For questions or guidance, the Labour Inspection Department can be reached at 22-879191.
