FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — As Cyprus endures a severe heatwave, residents in northern Cyprus are facing additional hardship due to widespread power and water outages.
The ‘Famagusta Municipality’ announced Sunday that a malfunction in the main water line has disrupted supply to the entire city.
Repairs are underway, but water will remain unavailable in all areas connected to the Famagusta network during the work.
Authorities urged residents to conserve water.
The outages follow a powerful explosion Thursday at a transformer center in the village of Nikitas, near the town of Morphou.
The blast triggered a fire and caused extensive damage, leading to a blackout across northern Cyprus.
Dalman Aydın, director general of the Turkish Cypriot electricity authority Kıb-Tek, said the explosion occurred inside the substation and knocked out key infrastructure.
The combination of extreme heat and infrastructure failures has made daily life difficult for many residents, with limited access to cooling, water, and essential services.
