FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Emergency measures remain in effect Sunday to protect workers from extreme heat, as Cyprus faces soaring temperatures and an orange-level warning.
Outdoor heavy and moderate labour, including deliveries by motorcycle, bicycle, or scooter, must stop between noon and 4 p.m. in inland and mountainous areas.
Employers and self-employed workers are required to monitor temperature and humidity, adjust work schedules, and implement safety measures to reduce heat stress.
Recommended precautions include frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas, access to drinking water, light breathable clothing, head coverings, and sunglasses.
Workers are advised to avoid large meals, sugary foods, alcohol, and caffeine during peak heat hours.
A red alert for wildfire risk also remains in place.
Authorities urge the public to avoid fire-prone activities and report any smoke or flames immediately.
