Hungary Sets Tourism Record in 2025 With More Than 20 Million Visitors

Hungary’s tourism sector hit a historic milestone in 2025, drawing more than 20 million visitors and surpassing all previous records, the head of the Hungarian Tourism Agency has said.

The country — home to fewer than 10 million people — welcomed roughly twice its population in guests last year.

Hungary’s tourism growth outpaced the European Union average by a factor of 2.5 and exceeded that of regional neighbors such as Austria, Croatia and the Czech Republic. Hungary ranked seventh in the EU for guest‑number growth.

Passenger traffic at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport also reached a record 19 million in 2025, the highest level in the airport’s 75‑year history.

Domestic and foreign visitors made up roughly equal shares of total arrivals. Budapest saw a 13 percent rise in visitor numbers, hosting more than 7 million international tourists and over 1 million domestic travelers.
