The number of influenza cases in Finland has been rising sharply over the past couple of weeks, but the peak of the epidemic may not yet have been reached, according to Niina Ikonen, a leading expert from the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
Influenza is now being detected in large numbers across almost all of Finland and among people of all ages.
The current number of infections is nearly the same as at the peak of last year’s influenza season.
Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising the public to take preventive measures, such as getting vaccinated and practicing good hygiene, to reduce the spread of the virus.
