Israel’s National Security Council on Sunday urged citizens abroad to avoid large gatherings following a deadly shooting at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia.
The council said Israelis overseas should “strictly adhere” to precautionary measures, including steering clear of events not protected by security forces, such as synagogue gatherings.
It also urged vigilance around Jewish and Israeli sites and reporting suspicious activity to local authorities.
Officials warned that past experience shows a risk of copycat attacks, heightening concern for Jewish and Israeli communities worldwide.
The advisory followed an attack in Sydney, where two gunmen opened fire on crowds at Bondi Beach, killing at least 15 people and wounding dozens, according to the statement.
