Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa reaffirmed her country’s support for the Republic of Cyprus’ full accession to the Schengen Zone during a working lunch held in honor of President Nikos Christodoulides, currently on an official visit to Riga.
In official remarks, Siliņa thanked Cyprus for its cooperation on shared challenges, with a particular reference to the crisis in Ukraine. The two sides also discussed defense, tourism, maritime affairs, migration and housing policy.
Christodoulides briefed his counterpart on the Cyprus issue, especially in light of Latvia’s upcoming term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Siliņa expressed her country’s backing for renewed negotiations aimed at resolving the long-standing division of the island.
