FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Lufthansa Group narrowed its adjusted operating loss to €722 million ($823 million) in the first quarter of 2025, supported by revenue growth and a rebound in international travel demand.

The company’s revenue climbed 10% year-on-year to €8.13 billion ($9.27 billion), easing losses compared to the €849 million reported during the same period last year. Passenger airlines generated €5.9 billion in revenue, up 6%, as the group expanded capacity by nearly 5%.

Lufthansa’s EBIT margin improved by 2.6 percentage points to minus 8.9%, despite seasonal weakness and rising costs. CEO Carsten Spohr praised the performance, noting higher yields across all group airlines and highlighting that Lufthansa’s flagship brand achieved its strongest operational start to a year in a decade.

The company anticipates a busy summer travel season driven by resilient demand but cautioned about external risks, including geopolitical tensions and evolving U.S. trade policies, which could affect global aviation and supply chains.

Despite uncertainties, Lufthansa remains optimistic about surpassing its 2024 operating result of €1.6 billion this year.
