FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Austria saw a robust winter tourism season, with more than 64 million overnight stays recorded between November 2024 and March 2025, according to preliminary data from Statistics Austria released Tuesday.

The figures are only 0.9% below the record set during the 2018-2019 winter season.

Of the total stays, 78.1% were attributed to international visitors, with Germany leading as the primary source of foreign tourists.

December 2024 and January 2025 were particularly strong months, with overnight stays by both local and international guests surpassing the previous year’s figures. Non-resident overnight stays in December alone rose by 13.3%.

“Tourism in Austria is on a record-breaking course,” said Tobias Thomas, director general of Statistics Austria, adding that overnight stays are becoming more evenly distributed throughout the year.

The alpine nation’s tourism industry continues to rebound strongly, reflecting its enduring appeal as a travel destination.
