The mayors of Paphos and Lefkoniko are being placed on suspension after authorities informed the Interior Ministry that both are under criminal investigation, officials said Wednesday.
The ministry said the interior minister, who is currently abroad, will approve the required notice upon his return tonight.
The suspension takes legal effect once the notice is published in the Official Gazette on Thursday.
Under Cypriot law, elected officials facing criminal charges that carry potential prison terms of more than three years are suspended until investigations are completed and the cases are heard in court.
