Energy bills for millions of households in Germany will fall next year as regional utilities cut prices for electricity and gas, according to an analysis by comparison portal Verivox.
About 4.8 million households are expected to benefit. At the start of 2026, 307 electricity providers in basic supply will lower rates by an average of 8.9 percent, affecting roughly 3.1 million households.
Twelve utilities plan increases, averaging 1.4 percent, while most others will keep tariffs stable. Nationally, the average basic supply price will decline 2.6 percent. A family consuming 4,000 kilowatt hours annually will see costs drop from €1,763 to €1,717.
Savings vary by region. Saxony will see the steepest cuts, with local supply prices down about 8.5 percent. A three-person household there using 4,000 kilowatt hours will save about €143 in 2026.
