The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out airstrikes on Gaza City, killing more than 50 people, the AFP news agency reports.
“They bombed schools, homes and public gatherings,” said Mahmud Bassal, spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense.
The Israeli military said it was investigating reports of the attack.
Elsewhere, five Israeli soldiers have been killed in fighting in northern Gaza.
