More than 5,300 buildings, many of them residential, have been destroyed in the fire in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles.

The fire has now grown to over 80 square kilometers and is still far from being under control, writes the BBC .

The estimates are based on aerial photographs. The buildings, referred to as “structures” by authorities, include residential and commercial buildings, but also camping cabins and sheds.

The Palisades Fire is the largest of the five fires burning in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department . The second largest, the Eaton Fire, is currently estimated to be about half the size of the Palisades Fire. The Eaton Fire is also out of control.
