Spain’s interior minister has appealed to European partners for assistance as wildfires continue to ravage parts of the country.
The fires have claimed two lives in recent days, scorched thousands of hectares of land, and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents.
Scientists have long warned that climate change is intensifying heat waves across the Mediterranean, including in Greece and Spain.
Experts told AFP that larger and more frequent wildfires are likely to become the norm in the region in the coming years.
