LIMASSOL — A man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a police chase through the streets of Limassol after allegedly running a red light, authorities said.
According to police, the incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. on Franklin Roosevelt Avenue, when officers from the Crime Prevention Unit spotted a vehicle violating a traffic signal.
Officers activated sirens and lights and signaled the driver to stop, but he accelerated and drove recklessly in an attempt to flee.
Shortly afterward, the vehicle came to a sudden stop.
Three individuals exited and fled on foot in unknown directions. The driver was intercepted by an officer, whom he allegedly pushed in an effort to avoid arrest. He was ultimately subdued with assistance from a second officer.
Police identified the suspect as a 32-year-old Limassol resident. He was reportedly driving without insurance or valid registration.
