Police operations lead to seven arrests across Cyprus; nearly 2 kilos of cannabis seized

Police carried out intensified overnight crime‑prevention operations across Cyprus, resulting in seven arrests and the seizure of nearly two kilograms of cannabis, authorities said.

The operations involved a reinforced police presence in key urban areas aimed at preventing serious criminal activity, protecting the public and maintaining order.

In Limassol district, officers stopped a suspicious vehicle that attempted to evade inspection. Police said a 23‑year‑old driver was found with a small quantity of drugs, a club and a canister of harmful gas spray. A search of his home uncovered 15 packages containing about 1.99 kilograms of cannabis, leading to his arrest.

Four additional arrests were made in Limassol for offenses including possession of a knife and illegal weapons, possession of stolen property and traffic violations, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest, and an outstanding warrant related to interference in judicial proceedings.

Two more people were arrested in Larnaca and Paphos on outstanding warrants for unpaid fines and failure to appear in court.

Police also conducted extensive checks at various establishments to deter unlawful activity. More than 400 traffic inspections were carried out, resulting in over 110 citations. Nine involved driving under the influence of drugs. Seven cars and one motorcycle were impounded, and one stolen motorcycle was recovered.
