FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Communication Division of the Cyprus Police condemned attacks on officers during Easter celebrations, calling for respect for the uniform as a symbol of protection, safety, and legality.

Every year, incidents mar the spirit of Easter, the division said in a statement.

Firecrackers and improvised explosives are launched not only into the air but also at civilians and those serving the community.

Police officers have faced attacks, injuries, and life-threatening situations.

In one incident captured on video in Livadia, officers were targeted with firecrackers, fireworks, stones, and other objects while performing their duties.

The division described the attack as an assault on the authorities working to protect citizens.

Another incident occurred in Latsia, where young individuals threw stones at police officers attempting to secure a fire department vehicle extinguishing a blaze.

“These phenomena are unacceptable,” the statement read.

“Our members’ uniforms are not targets; they are symbols of protection, safety, and legality. Police officers are also people—friends, neighbors, and relatives.”

The division urged the public to respect law enforcement and support their efforts to maintain safety during public celebrations.
