Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro on Saturday did not rule out his country taking part in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine once the Russia‑Ukraine conflict ends, according to Interfax‑Ukraine.
At a joint news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Montenegro said Portugal is part of the Coalition of the Willing — a group of about 30 countries supporting Ukraine — and “will participate in peacekeeping operations,” though he stressed that no such mission is currently being planned.
Montenegro said Portugal is already helping Ukraine develop underwater drones. Zelensky said the two countries have signed a partnership agreement for their production.
The Portuguese leader arrived in Kyiv earlier Saturday.
