President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides is leaving for Lebanon Friday, where he will meet with newly elected President Joseph Aoun.
Political division in Lebanon resulted in a vacant presidential position following the end of former President Michel Aoun’s term on Oct. 31, 2022. The parliament had failed to elect a president for the country in 12 electoral sessions. A caretaker government has been running the country during the presidential vacuum.
The focus of the meeting will be developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, as well as internal issues that directly affect Lebanon and Cyprus.
At the same time, the President of the Republic will underline the decisive role of Cyprus as a pillar of stability, security and peace, emphasizing the Government’s will for closer cooperation.
