A Russia‑flagged tanker was attacked off Turkey’s Black Sea coast Tuesday but continued its voyage unharmed, the country’s Directorate General for Maritime Affairs said.
The Midvolga 2, carrying sunflower oil from Russia to Georgia, came under attack about 80 nautical miles from shore, the directorate said on X. All 13 crew members were safe, and the vessel proceeded toward Sinop without requesting assistance.
The incident followed recent strikes on two other commercial ships in the Black Sea by unmanned surface vessels, for which Ukraine claimed responsibility.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that targeting vessels in Turkey’s exclusive economic zone marked a dangerous escalation in the Russia‑Ukraine conflict, adding that Ankara had warned all parties against actions threatening navigation safety.
